Last Saturday, Ronnie, Betsy, Casey and I went out to eat at a FABULOUS Szechuan restaurant near Rockefeller plaza. Amazingly, New York City actually honors reservations... Ronnie made one for us at 7p and I met him in the crowded, crazy lobby where we were waiting for Betsy and Casey. When Ronnie realized he hadn't told the host that we were here, it was 7p and I figured that meant we'd be waiting another half hour. But can you believe as soon as Ronnie told them, they immediately led us to an empty 4-seater table in the midst of a loud and crowded Chinese restaurant, as if they actually respected the sanctity of dinner reservations!
After the Dan Dan noodles, kung pao chicken, pork dumplings and some sort of spicy tofu, we visited the Christmas tree at Rockefeller, then took to 5th Ave (wtf is The Snowflake and the Bubble showing on the wall of Bergdorf Goodman across from Rockefeller?!), then went to the Village for ice cream, and walked the Brooklyn Bridge at nighttime...
(The midtown skyline looked like Disneyland with the Empire State Building lit up red and green, and the others aglow with different festive colors) but of course we get into Brooklyn and watch a car making a lefthand turn slam into a lightpost (it was REALLY loud) and then the guy and his girl switch seats and try to leave as if nothing happened.
Back to the grind this week but I already feel right back at home, moreso than before I left for California, and really enjoying the winter in the city.
