New Orleans, Louisiana

Good morning from the French Quarter!! I am on cloud nine in this city and both Jayna and I wish we could spend another day and night here, our historic hotel is unbelievably adorable and this whole city is just so cute and so fun already.

Yesterday we woke up at her sister's place in Atlanta, got ready and went into the city for a few hours, had lunch at a tiny corner sandwich shop, visiting the Underground Atlanta, Olympic Park, and World of Coca-Cola (you might be like me and not realize that Coke is from Atlanta) and on the road, finishing the drive through Georgia, Alabama and Mississippi through to Louisiana. We made a stop in Birmingham which was a creepy ghost town hotter than the dickens, and it was there that I was informed that I left my packed duffel bag at Jayna's sister's in Atlanta. Who does that? I can't even talk about it. I'm not pulling random articles of clothing out from the bags in my car, whatever I can reach. It's not a pretty look but I have no one to blame but myself.

Brace yourselves, because lots of pictures from yesterday are coming:

A Coca-Cola sign in downtown Atlanta. They also had weird iron peaches on top of buildings that I thought were onions and couldn't figure out why until Jayna pointed out my idiocy

In Underground Atlanta. We may or may not have made a recording at a karaoke booth here

Centennial Park from the 1996 Games

Kinda looks like Coachella, doesn't it?

Inside the World of Coca-Cola which was pretty interesting, and it was exciting to be able to drink over 60 varieties from around the world

You could submit your own Coca-Cola story (whatever that means) so I wrote one out (embellished for dramatic effect) and decided it was a featured story before I even submitted it

Entering Alabama, where they defend their rights!

The Alabama Welcome Center had this back porch with rocking chairs overlooking a forest that was humming with crickets and wildlife and it was so peaceful and pretty!

A Statue of Liberty replica 1/5 the size of the original in NYC outside of Birmingham. We actually looked this up and drove to it because why not?

The Alabama Theatre in Birmingham. The one place that even still existed, every single shop around it was deserted, as in, it's not even a thing anymore. And this was a Monday!

The Birmingham, Alabama "skyline"

The Alabama/Mississippi border!

It was huuuuuumid, I felt like I jumped in a pool when I got out of the car

The very sad Louisiana welcome/sign. Although it was nice to see they had one at all, it wasn't for like 10 miles past the actual border

Bourbon Street in the French Quarter! Just a block or two from where we are staying

Moreeeeee Bourbon Street

Outside from the French Quarter, Harrah's Casino

Map of my new favorite city!

Just some super cute little place in the French Quarter

The courtyard of our hotel which is super old, dilapidated, adorable, perfect, has a pool, and our room has a front-facing balcony
Jayna and I got into New Orleans around midnight, dumped our stuff and went out to Bourbon Street for drinks, hung out and enjoyed the nightlife, did a trip to the casino, and crashed around 3am. This morning we are getting ready to explore the city more for a few hours before we get on the road again. Our destination tonight is Austin, Texas.

  1. Wow, you and your GF are on quite a run!!! Yup the home of CCE is Atlanta. I do a convention there every year and am continually reminded of it! lol.
I see you went to Birmingham, I always liked that city, but it was ravished a couple of years ago. Whenever I am there I always go over to Tuscalosa to the Alabama U campus. Travel safe, and be on your toes in the Quarters
    love you and see you soom;
